6 police officers in trouble for extorting money from drivers
The accused officers, all located at
the Sekondi Police Regional headquarters, were allegedly caught on a video,
taking various sums of monies from commercial drivers at the Inchaban Barrier.
A statement from the police revealed that personnel were tasked to investigate
the matter, as soon as the news of the purported video went viral. The
statement further added that the police officers (whose identities are being
protected), were requested to appear before the PIPS Bureau in Accra for
questioning. The conduct of the police, it again indicated, were in direct
contrast to the vision of the Ghana Police Service to project itself as a
world-class police service.
Motorists are therefore reminded to
refrain from giving out monies to police officers. Clear guidelines, it has
been revealed, would be published in order to regulate the activities of
officers at various duty posts. The statement concluded by indicating that
officers who flout regulations or act in an unprofessional manner would be
dealt with.
