ACP Addo-Danquah named CID boss
ACP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah,
has been directed by the IGP to act as the Director General of the CID - She
replaces DCOP Bright Oduro, who has been relieved of the position ACP Maame Yaa
Tiwaa Addo-Danquah has been named the acting Director-General of the Criminal
Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.
She was appointed to the position after previous CID boss
COP Bright Oduro was asked to proceed on leave.
Her appointment, though, has divided
opinion among Ghanaians, with certain quarters suggesting she has still not
fully cleared her name from the corruption saga involving musician A-Plus and
the two deputy Chiefs of Staff, Asenso Boakye and Abu Jinapor.
A-Plus implicated ACP Addo-Danquah
after releasing an audio which sought to suggest that she wanted to cover up
for both deputy Chiefs of Staff.
The now acting CID boss, however, denied the allegations
claiming the audio was doctored in a bid to destroy her reputation.
Meanwhile, Civil Society group Governance Watch believe it
is wrong to appoint ACP Addo-Danquah as the acting Director-General of the CID
despite the fact that the allegations leveled against her have not been fully
dealt with.
In an interview with Class FM, the Executive
Secretary of Governance Ghana, Stephen Kwabena Attuh, said there are pending
issue to be cleared regarding the case of ACP Addo-Danquah.
According to him, her appointment means she would head “an
institution that would continue to draw down its credibility”.
Minister He added that “whatever you put out
in the public, the public can stand up and challenge it. I am not sure that the
Ghana Police will tell us that there is nobody who is qualified apart from this
woman”.
