President Mugabe to name successor
President Mugabe has been nominated
by his Zanu-PF party to stand for re-election next year - Wife of the
president, Grace Mugabe has been rumoured as a potential successor to her
husband mean while Mugabe has embarked
on three medical trips to Singapore this year Grace Mugabe has urged her husband
to name his successor in order to end divisions over who will be the next
president of Zimbabwe. President Mugabe who is the world's oldest ruler, has
been nominated by his the Zanu-PF party to stand for re-election next year, the
BBC reports.
"President, don't be afraid.
Tell us who is your choice, which horse we should back," Mrs Mugabe told a
meeting of Zanu-PF's women's wing. "If you tell us the horse to back, we
will rise in our numbers and openly support that horse. Why should our horse be
concealed?" she added. Mrs Mugabe made the statement in the presence of
her husband who was in attendance at the event. The president’s wife has also
been rumoured as a potential successor to her husband as has Vice-President
Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Mugabe has ruled Zimbabwe since
independence in 1980
