Tip - How to screenshot on Snapchat without them knowing
The video and photo messaging app does not allow users to take screenshots of the messages on their screen without alerting the person who sent it out.
It’s a very annoying feature and one which has bugged Snapchatters who don’t want to seem totally creepy.
Luckily there are ways of getting around the screenshot ban, some trickier than others
1. Use someone else’s phone to take a picture of your phone
This is a rudimentary solution – but it’s genius in its simplicity.
If you have a second phone (your friend’s, a family member’s etc) you can simply photograph your own phone screen when Snapchat is open.
They don’t even need to have Snapchat. Just make sure you have a steady hand when recording or photographing and
2. Screenshot, then uninstall
As solutions go, this may seem extreme but it’s foolproof – your contact will not receive a notification at all.
All you need to do is:
Open the photo in Snapchat and wait for it to load completely
When it has, turn off cellular, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and screenshot away
Exit Snapchat and uninstall the app completely
Restart your phone, reinstall Snapchat and log in
Hey presto! You have the shots and nobody knows!
The reason why you have to uninstall the app AS WELL as turning off internet when you snap is that Snapchat will still know you’ve taken shots even if the connection is off.
And in those circumstances, Snapchat will still let the person know (just a few minutes later than usual).
3. Use a recorder app
There are also, unsurprisingly, some recorder apps that claim to help you record what happens on your screen while using Snapchat.
The ones for Android include Casper and MirrorGo.
But if you have an iPhone (and a Mac) you’ll need Mac Quicktime plus a lightning cable to connect your Mac to your phone.
After connecting the two devices and opening Mac Quicktime, just make a movie recording using the iPhone as a source (select it from the dropdown arrow next to recording button) and open Snapchat on your phone. And there you have it.
If you have an iOS 11 phone, it comes with a screen recording feature that you can use for this purpose without downloading anything.
