Not all workers will receive new minimum wage, See list of exempted organisations
Despite the recent agreement between organized labor and the federal government on a new salary structure, not all Nigerian workers will benefit from the new national minimum wage.
According to a report by Newsmen on Thursday, July 25, certain establishments are exempt from paying the new minimum wage. These include:
Nano businesses with capital below N50,000 and managed by 1-3 persons
Micro business enterprises
Businesses with 10 or fewer employees
Startups
Companies less than three years old
Establishments with less than N50 million revenue per quarter or N200 million revenue per annum
Industries with staff remuneration regulated by other acts of the national assembly.
The Minister of Labour and Employment or the Executive Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission may also grant exemptions to other businesses deemed reasonably justified.
This exemption list was revealed by a 10-man sub-committee of the tripartite committee, comprising representatives from government, labor, and the private sector.
