Real Madrid Announce Shirt Changes As Mbappe Handed New Number
Real Madrid new signing, Kylian Mbappe is reportedly set to be handed a new number when he arrives at the club for his debut campaign.
According to The Mirror, the French star will don Los Blancos' No. 9 shirt, following in the footsteps of icons like Alfredo Di Stefano, Ronaldo Nazario, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Karim Benzema. The shirt number that has been unoccupied since Benzema left the Bernabeu in 2023 will now be taken by Mbappe.
Only once in his career has Mbappe donned the shirt number, during Monaco's 2017 French National Cup. For the majority of that season, Radamel Falcao represented the Ligue 1 side in the shirt.
The 25-year-old has previously donned 11, 29, 13, 33, and 39 for Monaco and 7, 14, 17, and 29 for PSG. On the international scene, France's captain has worn shirts number 10 since 2017-18. Previously, he wore numbers 12 and 20.
Madrid have declared that following Spain's Tuesday elimination of France from Euro 2024, Mbappe will be unveiled as a Les Merengues player the following week. After leaving Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer, Real's headline signing penned a five-year contract.
Additionally, the Laliga giants have changed a few of the team's shirt numbers. After Nacho Fernandez left the team, Eduardo Camavinga will take over the number six, and Federico Valverde will don retired Toni Kroos' eight after Euro 2024.
After Joselu's tenure at the top throughout the previous season, Aurelian Tchouameni will now wear number 14. Additionally, Xabi Alonso, Guti, and Casemiro have all worn the same number.
18-year-old Jesus Vallejo will wear Tchouameni's former jersey number. Arda Guler, a promising Turkish player, claims 15 after wearing 24 last season.
