Trump on the purpose of the U.S. blockade
Asked whether the goal of blockading the Strait of Hormuz is to force Iran back to the negotiating table or reopen the strait so that energy costs come down, President Trump told reporters on Monday: "Maybe everything."
"Both of those things, certainly, and more," Mr. Trump said. "We can't let a country blackmail or extort the world. Because that's what they're doing. They're really blackmailing the world. We're not going to let that happen."
The president did not share details about plans for further talks with Iran. But, he said, "we've been called by the other side" since negotiations fell apart in Islamabad.
"They'd like to make a deal. Very badly, very badly," he added.
