U.K. sanctions 12 Iran-linked entities accused of plotting attacks and trying to destabilize the country(uk)
The British government announced new sanctions on Monday against 12 Iran-linked individuals and entities, accusing them of being involved in plotting attacks and providing financial help to parties working to destabilize the U.K.
The updated sanctions list now includes people linked to what the British Foreign Office called the Zindashti criminal network. The group, the British government says, has been involved in Iran-backed hostilities, including planning or conducting attacks against people and entities in Britain and elsewhere.
Last month, British counterterrorism police said they were investigating a series of attacks against the Jewish community in London for possible Iran links. A group with reported links to Iran claimed responsibility for many of them.
Iran has denied all involvement in attacks in the U.K., and it is not clear whether British authorities believe there could be any nexus between the Zindashti group and the shadowy Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamia group that claimed responsibility for the recent antisemitic attacks.
