Student who was walked to graduation gifted a car and offered scholarship

Corey Patrick became a social media sensation after an Alabama MAX bus driver took to Facebook to share a photo of the young man dressed in a ceremonial cap and gown walking to the bus stop to attend his high school graduation. According to reports, Corey moved to West End to live with his mother, Felicia White after attending Tarrant City Schools since the fourth grade.

However, despite the family's inability to afford a proper means of transportation, it didn't deter his determination to get an education. In his mother's words, "Corey was getting up at 4:30 in the morning and had to be at the bus stop at 5:41 in the morning for the last year. Even when he would get out of school he couldn't get from that side of town until 5:19 when the bus runs back over there. So he doesn't make it back this way until about 6:30 or 7 o'clock,"

Corey continued with this practice until his graduation and as expected, it was no different for him, seeing that he was pictured on the big day walking to get a bus. Speaking with WBRC, he said, "I had to do what was necessary for me to walk this year, When I woke up that day I was just happy that today was that day that I was going to walk the stage and get my diploma."

Corey who became an internet sensation after his story went viral, received a lot of support from people across the country who were moved by his focus and determination. One of those people was American radio host and comedia, Rickey Smiley who gifted the young boy with a car.
