Mason Mount set to miss Manchester United's next two matches with 'small injury complaint'
Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount is unlikely to play again before the international break after picking up a 'small injury complaint' in Saturday's defeat to Tottenham.
The £55million summer signing had an ineffective gave in north London as the Red Devils were beaten 2-0 and was withdrawn in the 85th minute, with Facundo Pellistri replacing him.
Mount did not appear to be carrying a knock when he left the pitch, but United have now confirmed that he will definitely miss this coming Saturday's home match against Nottingham Forest.
More worryingly, the club do not expect him to return to action until after the international break meaning he would also miss a massive clash away to Arsenal on September 3.
A brief statement from United explained: 'Mason Mount is set to miss Saturday's game against Nottingham Forest due to an injury picked up in last weekend's encounter with Tottenham Hotspur.
'The small complaint is expected to keep Mount out until the international break next month.
'The England midfielder has started both of our Premier League games so far this season after making his competitive debut for the club in last week's 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford.'
Although Mount has struggled somewhat since moving to Old Trafford, his absence would be a big blow for Erik ten Hag.
United's midfield has been routinely cut apart in their first two matches of the new season, against Wolves and Spurs, and Ten Hag is light on options in the centre of the pitch with Fred having left the club, loanee Marcel Sabitzer not retained and Kobbie Mainoo injured.
Mount's absence will likely see United rejig their midfield with Scott McTominay - who has been linked with a move away - brought in to provide additional support to Casemiro.
Jamie Carragher recently criticised the set-up of United's midfield this season and felt it left Casemiro particularly exposed.
'I think they have big problems in midfield. The set-up of their midfield is not right for me. I think there are a few things wrong,' said the former Liverpool defender on Sky Sports. 'The manager's set up, what he is asking them to do in terms of the profile of players, is not right.'
Ten Hag is believed to be keen to add a new midfielder to his ranks and has been heavily linked with Fiorentina and Morocco star Sofyan Amrabat, who is likely to be available for around £25million.
