Iranian delegation meets with Pakistani prime minister

A meeting has begun between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, according to Pakistani officials.

Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar and Chief of Army Staff Syed Asim Munir are also meeting with the group of Iranian officials.

Araghchi arrived in Islamabad on Friday ahead of his meeting with Sharif. The U.S. is sending special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Islamabad on Saturday, though Araghchi said he had no plans to meet with the U.S. representatives and will convey Iran's position on a peace deal only through the Pakistani mediators.

Araghchi was initially only expected to be in Islamabad for a few hours, but the talks have lasted longer and he remains in Islamabad.
