Court remands father for allegedly raping his 16-year-old daughter in Ondo

A motorcycle rider named Bayo Akinfenwa has been ordered to be detained in Olokuta Correctional Center after a Chief Magistrates' Court in Akure found him guilty of raping his 16-year-old daughter.

The event happened at Ondo State's Ayeyemi Akintunde Street in March of this year.

The defendant was arraigned on a single count of rape on Monday, May 15, 2023.

Supol Matins Olowofeso, the police prosecutor, testified in court that the defendant committed the crime at home sometime in March 2023.

The charge read, "That you, Bayo Akinfenwa, did unlawfully have carnal knowledge of your daughter, one 16-year-old Akinfenwa, sometime in March at midnight at Akintunde Street, in Ondo.

The offense violates Sections 357 and 358 of the Criminal Law of Ondo State, 2006, according to the charge.

The defendant's plea was rejected by the magistrate.

In anticipation of receiving legal counsel from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, or DPP, the prosecution requested that the defendant be kept in custody in Olokuta Correctional Center.

In order to give the defendant time to file a counter-affidavit to the application, Magistrate Folashade Aduroja ordered the defendant to be kept on custody and postponed the hearing until May 25.
